I dig hanging out with nick. I'm glad he is back, I am glad we are kicking it despite living in different places.
One of the coolest assignments I was given as student orientation coordinator was to assemble a mix CD for a few different events to be played in the background. I ended up making two. one fore the involvement fair, and one for the family picnic. Here are the playlists...
Family Picnic
1. The Beach Boys - Wouldn't it be nice?
2. Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
3. Sublime - Doin' Time
4. White Stripes - We're Going to be Friends
5. Interpol - Evil
6. Beck - Tropicalia
7. The Doors - Touch Me
8. Queens of the Stone Age - Mosquito Song
9. The Velvet Underground - All Tomorrow's Parties
10. Devo - Come Back Jonee
11. Led Zeppelin - Bron-Y Aur Stomp
12. CCR - Fortunate Son
13. Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
14. Nirvana - Do Re Mi
15. Arlo Guthrie - Darkest Hour
16. Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin' Man
17. Postal Service - From Great Heights
18. The Strokes - Last Nite
19. Green Day - Last Ride In
20. The Beatles - Don't Pass me By
As i typed those all out, I hadn't realized how... subdued the whole thing is. I like the list a lot, I just don't think it promotes the kind of mood I would like to promote.
Involvement Fair
1. Led Zeppelin - Good Times Bad Times
2. The Beastie Boys - Right Right Now Now
3. The White Stripes - The Air Near my Fingers
4. Public Enemy - Fight the Power
5. Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same
6. Al Green - Let's Stay Together
7. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - The Wind Cries Mary
8. AC/DC - Can I sit Next to You Girl?
9. The Allman Brothers Band - Blue Skay
10. Andre 3000 - Hey Ya
11. Beck - Girl
12. Devo - Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy
13. The Beastie Boys - Intergalactic
14. Cake - Dime
15. Sublime - Santeria
16. Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
17. Beck - Broken Train
I initially conceived of this list as the one for the family picnic, but decided it was too much rock for the family scene. I think some parents will be turned of by it. And some students might, but they need to learn better so they don't grow up to be their parents.
Comments or suggestions welcome.
